SSAT Chinese Teaching Awards 2010
Teachers in English schools have been given awards for excellence in Chinese teaching and learning by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT).
Eight Confucius Institute Excellence Awards were presented at the SSAT's seventh annual China Conference, which took place at The Royal Society and The British Museum in London from 2-3 July 2010.
Outstanding Contribution Award
The nominated persons can come from any part of the subject area, including schools, advisory services, further and higher education, curriculum development, business and industry. To be given this award a person will need to have given service over a sustained period of time and made an outstanding contribution, showing commitment and system leadership.
Winner: Joan Deslandes, Headteacher, Kingsford Community School
Subject Leadership Award
The Subject Leadership Award seeks to award those who have made a significant contribution over a period of time in leading Chinese teaching and learning in their school and have established high standards of pupil performance.
Winner: Elspeth Wiltshire, Language Director, Devonport High School and Director of the Peninsula Group Confucius Classroom (which includes Devonport High School for Girls, Hele's School, Callington Community College and Ivybridge Community College).
Winner: Anne Martin, Head of Chinese, Trinity School
Winner: Annabel Parker, Head of Chinese, New Line Learning Academy
Outstanding Teacher Award
The Outstanding Teacher Award is presented to teachers who have displayed outstanding capability in teaching Chinese and/or China across the curriculum over a period of time.
Winner: Quimei Chen, Chinese teacher, Lincoln Christ's Hospital School
Winner: Alex Ferraby, Chinese teacher, Kingsford Community School
Exceptional Support in Teaching and Learning Chinese Award
The Exceptional Support in Teaching and Learning Chinese Award is for a classroom or language teaching assistant, whose support for the subject has been exceptional.
Winner: Keith Robinson, International Links Coordinator, Wade Deacon High School
Recipient of the Chair's Special Recognition Award
Winner: Yu Bin, Coordinator, Peking University
