SSAT (The Schools Network) Confucius Institute has designed a training course for speakers of Chinese who are interested in learning how to teach Chinese to school-age students or improve their existing teaching skills. Combining the expertise of experienced teacher trainers and academics from renowned UK universities with the practical classroom experience of the SSAT (The Schools Network) Confucius Institute and Confucius Classrooms, the course will provide participants with guidance on all aspects of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in schools in England.

This teaching course is designed to meet the rapidly-growing demand for trained teachers of Chinese in the UK. The course lays a great emphasis on the practical skills required to teach Chinese while also covering the more generic skills necessary for teaching in mainstream schools in England (e.g. lesson planning, national curriculum levels, differentiation, etc).

By the end of the course, candidates should be able to demonstrate:

·         a good understanding of the main issues in language learning and language teaching in general and in the field of Chinese language learning and teaching in particular

·         a good insight into the Chinese language in terms of how to facilitate the learning of Chinese by English speakers

·         the practical skills required for teaching Chinese in schools

·         an understanding of how modern foreign languages are taught in English schools and an ability to follow this approach.

Teaching will take place at the Schools Network headquarters in Millbank Tower, London, which is easily accessible by public transport.
